Six pellets removed from soldier’s body

KANGAR: The soldier injured in a shootout while patrolling the Malaysian-Thai border in Bukit Kayu Hitam on Saturday is recove­ring after six pellets were removed from his body.

L/Kpl Mohd Azam Rudin Azizan, 26, from the 2nd Royal Malay Regiment based in Sungai Ara, Penang, is being warded at the Tuanku Fauziah Hospital here.

Reporters were not allowed to meet L/Kpl Mohd Azam, who is said to be in stable condition.

Kubang Pasu OCPD Supt Ibrahim Mohd Yusoff said so far, no one had been arrested in connection with the shooting.

We are also unable to establish the motive (yet),” he said.

According to sources, the weapon used in the incident was believed to be a homemade shotgun.

L/Kpl Mohd Azam and another soldier were on patrol duty when they spotted flashlights behind the border fence and went to check.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar had said that L/Kpl Mohd Azam was shot in the back when both soldiers returned to their motorcycle after checking on the source of the lights.
