SHAH ALAM: Two men were arrested for selling replicas of firearms, including glocks, in a raid on their premise in Plaza Ampcorp Mall in Petaling Jaya.
The suspects, aged 28 and 42, have been selling the replicas, equipped with bearing bullets, for the past three months before a squad from the Selangor Serious Crime Unit tracked them down.
Police seized replicas of more than 15 glocks as well as real crossbows and rambo knives at about 5.30pm on Saturday.
Each glock cost about RM1,200 while the prices of the other weapons ranged between RM400 and RM800 each.
Selangor police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan said that such fake weapons could be used for actual crimes, and it was a serious offence to sell them.
“We believe the items were brought in from Thailand,” he told a press conference yesterday.
The two suspects could be fined up to RM800,000 each if found guilty under Section 36(1) of the Firearms Act 1960, he said. “The fake guns looked almost 90% like real firearms and can fool anyone,” SDCP Mohd Shukri said.
In another development, SDCP Mohd Shukri said police detained a 26-year-old suspected drug trafficker and seized 2,239g of heroin worth more than RM45,000 in Bandar Sunway at about 3.40pm on Monday.
“We believe he has been operating in the city for the past few months,” he said.
The suspect has been remanded until Oct 14.
